Prism Scopes

Shop prism scopes at Xtreme Tactical — fixed-power etched-reticle optics from Primary Arms in the SLx MicroPrismT at 1X, the SLx MicroPrism at 3X and 5X and the GLx MicroPrism at 1X, and from Holosun in the MP3X 3x24.

A prism scope is defined by its reticle, not its magnification. The aiming mark is etched into the glass rather than projected by an emitter, which changes two things that matter in practice. First, it is there whether or not the illumination is switched on, so a flat battery costs you brightness and nothing else — the reticle remains perfectly usable in daylight. Second, an etched reticle does not smear: shooters with astigmatism who see a red dot as a comma, a starburst or a cluster of dots typically see a prism reticle as the crisp shape it actually is, which is the single most common reason people move to one.

The fixed power is the trade. There is no dialling up or down, so pick the magnification for the job: a 1X MicroPrism is a direct alternative to a red dot, both eyes open and quick, but with a proper etched reticle behind it; 3X gives useful identification and a drop-compensating reticle for mid-range work; 5X pushes further still. A prism is also shorter than a variable scope of similar reach, though the eye box is tighter than a reflex sight, so head position needs to be consistent. Several 1X models here use the H1/T1 footprint and will bolt to mounts already made for micro red dots, which makes swapping straightforward. Which one do you need? Set the height with the optic mount height guide.
