A quality trigger is the single most effective accuracy upgrade you can make to an AR-15. Nothing else changes how the rifle shoots as much as replacing a gritty factory trigger with a crisp, consistent break. Here's how to choose from our AR-15 Triggers collection.
Single-stage vs two-stage
A single-stage trigger has one continuous pull to a clean break — simple, fast and intuitive. Competition favourites like the TriggerTech Diamond and Timney Competition 668S are single-stage designs.
A two-stage trigger adds a deliberate take-up (first stage) before a light, crisp break (second stage). You feel exactly where the shot will release — ideal for precision work and duty use where control matters. The Geissele SSA-E is the benchmark here, with the Timney AR PRO and TriggerTech Diamond Two-Stage close behind.
Pull weight: what the numbers mean
- 1.5–3 lb — match and precision territory. Superb for accuracy; too light for duty. See the Timney Calvin Elite 1.5 lb.
- 3–4.5 lb — the all-round sweet spot for range and general use. The Radian Vertex breaks at 3.5–4 lb.
- 4.5 lb+ — duty weight. TriggerTech's Duty Mil-Spec line keeps policy-compliant weight with a zero-creep break.
Adjustable models like the TriggerTech Adaptable (2.5–5 lb) let you change your mind later.
Drop-in cassettes vs standard triggers
Drop-in triggers (Timney, TriggerTech) come as self-contained units — pull two pins, drop it in, done. Standard-format triggers (Geissele, Radian) replace the factory parts directly and sit slightly lower in the receiver. Both install easily; drop-ins are the most beginner-friendly.
Check your pin size
Most AR lowers use mil-spec .154" trigger pins. Some Timney models are built for small-pin receivers specifically — always confirm before ordering. Every product page in our Rifle Triggers collection lists pin fitment under Compatibility.
Flat or curved shoe?
A flat shoe encourages consistent, low finger placement and extra leverage — the modern precision choice. A curved shoe feels instantly familiar. It's pure preference; most models in our range come in both.
